Memory 2/11/19

We didnt do much this week in science. we finished our biomes since we have barley had a cjhnace to do them at all during these crazy weeks of snow-days. So, I watched a sciency video.  It was about memory and how we forget.  How do we remember? Well,  they found that out when the operated on a patient named H.M., he was having seizures all the time and decided he would do  an experimental surgery. The doctors demolished his hippocampus. what’s a hippocampus? Your hippocampus is a group of cells in you brain that look like a sea horse. When H.M. went out of the surgery he had no seizures and every body was happy, until,  he could not remember something for longer than five minutes, he could remember some things of the past but he could not have a conversation with you. This shows us that the hippocampus doesn’t remember things, it makes new memories.  They did a few tests on HM, one test was where he had to draw a star inside of a star while only looking at his hand in the mirror. You wouldn’t think this but after a few times he was getting better, he might have forgotten what they were doing mid test. His muscle memory was getting better as they went along, he was subconsciously fixing his mistakes. I think thats pretty interesting.
